History of Tokyu Land Corporation

Tokyu Land Corporation marked the 60th anniversary in 2013. Follow our journey throughout the ages our innovations to stay ahead of change and our “challenge-oriented DNA” that drives us to keep creating new value.

1950s to the 1960s As a Great Local Brand

From “garden city” to the Shibuya and Daikanyama area: Our early days in urban development.

1918

The Den-en Toshi Company was established under the leadership of Eiichi Shibusawa.

1923

TLC began the sale of the Tamagawadai residential district (current Den-en-chofu) based on Japan's first "garden city" plan.

1928

Meguro-Kamata Railway Co., the predecessor of Tokyu Corporation, merges with Den-en Toshi Co.

1953

Tokyu Corporation spins off real estate division that becomes TOKYU LAND CORPORATION (TLC).

Real estate sales, gravel, recreational facilities, and advertising business operations are transferred from Tokyu Corporation to TLC(Chairman:Keita Goto, President: Noboru Goto).

1955

Construction of Daikanyama Tokyu Apartment (Japan's first luxury rental apartment complex for foreign nationals) is completed.

1956

TLC is listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (reassigned to the First Section of the TSE in1961).

Shibuya sales office opens, making TLC's full-scale entry into the real estate intermediary business.

1958

Completion of Tokyu Skyline

Completion of first condominiums in the real estate industry

1959

Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd. is established.

Construction business assets and trade rights are transferred from TLC to Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd.

1961

Tokyu Agency, Inc. is established.

Assets and trade rights concerning advertising business are transferred from TLC to Tokyu Agency, Inc.

TLC and Mitsubishi Bank team up to offer the "Tokyu-Mitsubishi Home Loan Program"

Japan's first loan program offered through a corporate partnership

1965

Shibuya Tokyu Plaza (now Tokyu Plaza Shibuya) opens and becomes the new home of the TLC headquarters.

Tokyu Home Loan is launched

the industry's first seller's guarantee system is introduced

1966

Tokyu Home, the custom-built wooden houses are commercialized.

1969

Tokyu Home Service Co. (later Tokyu Amenix Corporation), a company specializing in after-sale services for homebuyers, is established.

1970s to the 1980s As a Comprehensive Living Producer

Growing into a multifaceted group providing lifestyle solutions.

1970

TOKYU COMMUNITY CORP., a company specializing in building and condominium management, is established.

Osaka Branch Office (now Kansai Area Residential Business Division) opens.

1972

TLC establishes Area Service Co. (now TOKYU LIVABLE,INC.), a company specializing in real estate referrals.

1973

Tokyu Architects & Engineers, Inc. is establiched.

Design supervision business, assets and trade rights are transferred from TLC to Tokyu Architects & Engineers, Inc.

TLC opens development offices in Sapporo (now the Sapporo Branch).

1975

Sapporo Tokyu Golf Course & Oita Tokyu Golf Course open, making TLC's entry into the golf business.

Ishikatsu Exterior, Inc., becomes a TLC affiliate.

1976

TOKYU HANDS INC., a retailer of home improvement and do-it-yourself merchandise, is established. (First store opens in Fujisawa).

1978

TOKYU RESORT CORPORATION, a company specializing in the sale of vacation homes, is established.

1982

TLC establishes Tokyu Home Corporation (now Tokyu Homes Corporation), a company specializing in building design and construction subcontracting.

Tokeminami Planned Subdivision Project launched (now Asumigaoka)

Tateshina Tokyu Ski Resort opens, making TLC's entry into the ski business.

1983

TLC headquarters moved to the Shin-nanpeidai Tokyu Building.

1984

Tokyu Loan & Guarantee Corporation is established.

Tokyu Home & Lifestyle Research Center is established.

Palau Pacific Resort opens.

1985

Tokyu Relocation Co.,Ltd. is established.

1986

TOKYU SPORTS OASIS Inc., members-only sports club, opens in Esaka(Tamagawa, the following year)

1988

TOKYU Harvest Club, members-only resort hotel, opens in Tateshina.

1990s to the 2000s Shift to the Urban Development

A core shift: From condominium sales to rentals.

1993

Former Tokyu Stay Kamata opens, making TLC's entry into the medium-to-long stay city hotel business.

Opening of Setagaya Business Square

Completion of Tokyu's first super-high-rise building

1994

Kimi no Mori began provision of housing

Plan to develop Japan's first housing complexes and golf courses (fairway front town) in Kimi no Mori in Chiba

1999

Someino SC, large shopping center is securitized.

2000

TLC establishes EWEL, Inc. a company specializing in the outsourced management of wellness and welfare benefits.

2001

TLC and Tokyu Corporation establish Tokyu Real Estate Investment Management, Inc., a real estate investment consulting firm (TLC controls 40% share).

Management of 11 existing resort facilities consolidated under Tokyu Resort Service Co., Ltd.

A portion of non-life insurance operations is transferred to newly-established TOKYU INSURANCE CONSULTING CO., LTD.(a joint venture with other Tokyu Group Companies)

2002

Opening of the Ichiban-cho Tokyu Building

Completion of Tokyu's first office building project using development-type securitization in Ichiban-cho, Tokyo

2003

TLC establishes E-LIFE DESIGN Inc., which manages and operates senior housing and a care-giving facility, with Mitsubishi Corporation (now Tokyu E-LIFE DESIGN Inc.).

Minoh Market Park Visola (now Q's Mall Minoh) opens, one of the biggest shopping centers in the Kansai area.

2004

GRANCREER AZAMINO, opens as the first of the senior housing series.

Private placement fund for office/housing-related properties is started.

2005

Private placement fund for commercial-related properties is started.

2007

TLC establishes TOKYU LAND CAPITAL MANAGEMENT INC., a real-estate investment management firm.

TLC establishes TOKYU LAND CORPORATION (Shanghai) Ltd., a company that conducts real estate consulting in China.

Opening of Shiodome building

2008

TOKYU Harvest Club VIALA Hakone Hisui opens as the first of the VIALA Series, an upgraded version of the TOKYU Harvest Club, an operation specializing in members-only resort hotels.

2009

TLC establishes TOKYU LAND SC MANAGEMENT CORPORATION, a commercial facility management firm.

TLC establishes TLC Realty Management Inc. (current TLC Comforia Investment Management, Inc.), a company that conducts asset management for real estate investment trusts related to leased houses.

2010s Pursuit of Creating the Ideal Cities

Groupwide co-creation for sustainable growth by staying ahead of changing values and needs.

2010

Phase one of the construction of Futako Tamagawa Rise is completed.

TLC establishes TLC Township Inc. (current TLC Activia Investment Management Inc.), a company that conducts asset management for real estate investment trusts related to commercial Facilities and offices, etc.

2011

Futako-tamagawa Rise Shopping Center opens.

Abeno Market Park Q's Mall (now Q's Mall Abeno), one of the largest shopping malls in Osaka Prefecture, opens.

2012

Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku (now Tokyu Plaza Omotesando “Omokado”) opens.

Activia Properties Inc. is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

PT. TOKYU LAND INDONESIA is established for the purpose of expanding business in Indonesia.

Establishment of Tokyu Land US Corporation

Establishment of a local subsidiary in the United States

Shin-Meguro Tokyu Building, the first new concept for office building businesses, is completed.

2013

Opening of Business-Airport Aoyama

Opening of Tokyu's first members-only satellite office in Aoyama, Tokyo

Comforia Residential REIT, Inc. listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Ekimo Tennoji, the first commercial facility at an Osaka municipal subway station, opens.

TLC, Tokyu Community Corp., and Tokyu Livable, Inc. delisted Tokyu Fudosan Holdings Corporation established.

2015

Futako-tamagawa Rise Shopping Center terrace market opens.

Tokyu Plaza Shibuya closes due to the redevelopment of Shibuya.

Homecreer Yoga opens.

TLC headquarters moved to TK Minami-Aoyama Building.

Q's Mall Base Morinomiya opens.

2016

Tokyu Plaza Ginza opens.

2017

Established TLC REIT Management Inc.

Opening of Setagaya Nakamachi Project.

Established Tokyu Re・design Corporation

2018

Hyatt Regency Seragaki Island Okinawa opens.

Tokyu Small-amount Short-term Insurance Inc. established

2019

Construction of SHIBUYA SOLASTA completed and TLC headquarters relocated.

Opening of SHIBUYA FUKURAS / Tokyu Plaza Shibuya Opens.
